Google announced on June 3, 2026, a set of Search features designed to assist users with thrift and vintage shopping. The announcement comes as search queries for "vintage" and "how to thrift" reached record high interest levels during 2026, alongside rising search trends for terms including "vintage jersey" and "thrifted heels".

Planning and identification

Google outlined five distinct capabilities utilizing its artificial intelligence tools to locate and evaluate second-hand goods. Shoppers using AI Mode in Search can enter specific multi-part queries, such as seeking vintage jerseys in San Francisco within walking distance of gluten-free brunch spots. The feature highlights store options with key details and links for further research.

For in-person shopping, Google Lens processes photographs taken through the Google app on Android or iOS to identify an item's designer or historical era. The tool displays visual matches from across the web, allowing shoppers to review active resale prices and listing volumes to evaluate whether an item is rare.

Digital fitting and resale

On Android devices, Circle to Search allows users to activate visual searches by holding the home button or navigation bar and circling an image on screen. The feature retrieves prices, purchasing locations, and supports follow-up prompts regarding similar styles from specific eras.

Google also integrated its Virtual Try-On tool into visual search results. Users who locate clothing items via Lens can select a "try it on" option and upload a full-body photograph to preview how vintage apparel looks on them. Additionally, Lens accepts photo queries to assist users clearing out closets, providing feedback on resale potential and identifying store types that purchase pre-loved items.
